How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Florida Keys

Heading south? The Florida Keys is home to the southernmost point in the continental United States, and it’s also home to excellent things to do every single day of your trip. You can watch the waves at Smathers Beach, feed the tarpons at Robbie’s Marina, grab a drink at Alabama Jacks, and take in some history at the Oldest House Museum. When planning your Florida Keys vacation, you have so many islands to choose from. Each one has options for every type of visitor, whether you’re a large family or a solo traveler just looking for some sun.

Follow these tips to make sure you pick the perfect Florida Keys vacation rental for your travel plans.

  • Where to stay near Key West.Key West is probably the island you’re most familiar with. Key West is the southernmost key and is perfect for travelers who want to do a little bit of everything with a tropical drink in their hands. While you’re exploring the island, don’t skip getting a picture at the Southernmost point buoy at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets. Choose your Key West vacation rental near Mallory Square to be walking distance to popular bars like Lagerheads or Tiki House. During the day, check out the Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum and The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum for your history fix.
  • Where to stay in Key Largo. If you’re driving south from Miami, Key Largo is the first island you’ll hit in the Florida Keys. Quieter than Key West, Key Largo is great for the outdoorsy types looking to stay active on vacation. Stay in Tavernier to be close to the water for snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, diving, or boating. Check out the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park to see the only living coral reef in the continental United States. And don’t leave the island without checking out some of Key Largo’s best eats, like Hobo’s Cafe and The Catch.
  • Where to stay on the six islands of Islamorada.Fishing fanatics should look no further than Islamorada for their tropical vacation. You’ll be able to find a charter boat almost anywhere on Islamorada to take out for the day (it’s known as the “Sport Fishing Capital of the World“ for a reason!). When you’re done fishing, check out the dolphin or sea lion show at the Theater of the Sea. For a more upscale Key Largo experience, find a vacation rental near “Millionaire’s Row” on Plantation Key. If you want a more down-to-earth vacation, search for a beach bungalow on Lower Matecumbe Key.
  • Where to stay near Marathon. This popular town in the Middle Keys is great for travelers of all ages. For some family fun in the sun, look for a vacation rental on Sombrero Beach or in Key Colony Beach. You can lay by the ocean with a book, play some beach volleyball, or pass the time snorkeling in the crystal clear water. After your beach day, learn more about the area’s wildlife by visiting the Turtle Hospital or the Dolphin Research Center.
  • How to choose your own Florida Keys vacation rental experience. With so many islands making up the Florida Keys, there is truly a perfect place to stay for everyone. Whether you’re spending the day golfing at the Florida Keys Country Club, checking out Key West’s famous Duval Street, or kayaking to Indian Key, your trip to the Florida Keys will be one to remember.
